Have you ever felt like it was time for a change in one or several areas of your life?
Recently for me, I knew that it was time for a change.
And I’m not talking about anything too major here…
I just wanted to change up my RobertHawthorne.com website a little. No biggie.
It all started with a very simple idea to officially offer my direct response copywriting services on my website.
But then it turned into a monster project thanks to the domino effect.
You see, I asked myself a few weeks back… And that question was, “What type of copywriting do I enjoy writing the most?”
So I grabbed a pen and started writing down the areas that I loved to write sales copy for.
In total, there were 6 main areas in the copywriting bucket which I truly enjoyed doing…
- Amazon Product Page Copywriting
- A Copywriting Review Service
- Full Service Salesletter Copywriting
- Landing Page Copywriting
- Facebook Ad Copywriting
- And Other Copywriting Services
And then on top of the copywriting list, there were 4 other types of services/consulting that I loved offering…
- Independent Commission-Only Sales Rep Recruiting
- Seminar Seat-Filling Service
- Company Launch Consulting
- Product Launch Consulting
So one day I began writing a ‘typical’ salesletter listing out the copywriting and marketing services I provided, and the original plan was to keep it simple.
You know, one of those projects that you can easily complete in an afternoon.
One simple page. No sweat.
But then…
A completely crazy idea emerged to create a different salesletter for all 9 services slammed into my head like 38 tons of bricks.
Although the idea was crazy… I liked it.
Side note: I decided to combine company & product launch consulting onto one page. So it looks like 10 services provided, but it’s 9. That’s out little secret.
So before I knew it, one afternoon project turned into a project that took many late nights over the last few weeks in between other projects.
And besides writing the copy, I had fun designing the pages to make them all different so visitors who check out my services won’t get tired of seeing the same exact layout on every page.
It was a lot more work to do it that way, that’s for sure.
And just for fun, I even took it a step further and hid some ‘Easter eggs’ within some images on a few pages.
Can you spot one?
First one to find the hidden zoomed in $100 bills within an image wins!
(UPDATE: This offer expired. My wife beat you to it. It’s located on my Services page.)
Personally, I have not seen someone create different pages with different offers, looks, feels, etc. for their various services, but I figured why in the heck not.
Why?
For one, because there’s a freaking train-load of competition for any type of copywriting, marketing, or consulting projects…
And I know better than most anyone that you have to find creative ways to be memorable in this crazy ADD social-media-loving world we live in today.
And second, I figured if I was going to jump into this project, then I might as well jump in head-first.
You see, although I have been writing copy and doing launches since 2003, I only promoted myself as a copywriter one time back in 2007.
It was one ugly website; I let the domain expire.
But now things are different. I’ve never put it all out there in an organized way before… and I kinda like it.
The Shifts
This is the first time that I scattered everything on the table (or in this case, on a website) showing everything that I do and what I’ve done over the past 13+ years.
This simple exercise has been eye-opening in a lot of areas and has certainly caused some internal and external shifts. (Not to mention several pages of new ideas and opportunities…)
And the clarity this brought… oh my!
Do Try This At Home
I strongly urge you to list out everything you do in your work or business that you really love or enjoy doing.
Just focus on the positives. And if you don’t like doing something, don’t put it on your list.
I can promise you that you’ll experience some shifts and also gain some new ideas and insights once you’ve taken the time to laser-focus on what you love to do.
You may *think* you know, as I thought I did. But have you ever taken the time to think back over the past 10-15 years and write down everything that you’ve loved doing?
And remember, spend zero time thinking or worrying about what you do not like or what you do not want. Forget about it.
Out With The Old…
As part of my shift, I decided to delete nearly all of my previous blog posts. Sure, from a traffic and SEO standpoint, that’s not the ideal thing to do.
After all, I was getting some decent traffic from several of those blog posts. However, none of them were in alignment with this new shift…
And while I was at it, I went ahead and deleted all of my previous Facebook posts as well. Why the hell not?
I figured if I’m going to go this far, I might as well just keep going.
It’s like when you decided to move a few things around in your pantry and before you know it, hours have gone by and you’ve just rearranged the entire thing.
Are you game to make your list of the things you love to do in your work and business and see what comes out of it?
Do it.
Try it out and come back and share what happened!
Now I’m off to go rearrange a book or two on my bookshelf… uh oh….
